Where are you from and how did you get to where you are today?
New York, New York — honestly...hard work, a bit of luck, an open mind, a positive attitude and always slightly faking it til I make it :)
How would you describe your home?
Comfortable, grounding, eclectic, collected.
If you could peek inside any person’s house (dead or alive) to see how it’s decorated, who would that be and why?
It's rare to think of private people these days that don't show off their homes, but alive... honestly, The Olsen twins — no one has any idea! They are so private and I'd love to see their design expression in a home. That'd be fun. Or Diana Vreeland, for her sheer fabulous and over-the-top nature.
Can you tell us about some of your favorite pieces in your home?
A painting by my dear friend Joe Henry Baker — it was the first piece of art I bought for my apartment about 5 years ago and it still really anchors the room beautifully. I have some vintage clay scarabs that I bought in Egypt many years ago — they remind me of my heritage and my grandmother every time I look at them. My dining chairs are vintage French caning with grey pony hair seats — I purchased them about 5 years ago from The Somerset House and they still remain some of my favorites.
Is there a piece of art, film or book that you absolutely love?
Too many, but one in each category... Paolo Sorrentino's The Great Beauty, Felix Gonzalez-Torres (Untitled, Portrait of Ross L.A), Patti Smith, Just Kids.
What’s one piece of advice you’d share with your younger self?
Your self-worth isn't tied to your productivity — and don't take most things personally!
Do you have any projects you're working on right now that you're excited about?
We're opening a hotel in Richmond called Shenandoah Mansions — it'll be the first project Xavier Donnelley (our Creative Director and a friend of Tulip!) and I are tackling together as a team, so I’m really excited to bring it to life and share it with the world. On a personal note, I’m super focused on growing my olive community, Send Olives. I’ve got a rebrand, new product and some fun events and collaborative conversations in the works for the rest of the year. I absolutely love how these gatherings let me step into the role of a true host, bringing together so many people I adore.
